Enjoy!

Because alcohol is such a common, popular element in many activities, it can be hard to see when your drinking has crossed the line from reasonable or social use to problem drinking. If you consume alcohol simply to feel good, or to avoid feeling bad, your drinking could become problematic. Alcoholism and alcohol abuse can sneak up on you, so it’s important to be aware of the warning signs and take steps to cut back if you recognize them. Understanding the problem is the first step to overcoming it. Many people drink regularly without experiencing any harmful effects, other than perhaps a slight hangover on rare occasions. Yet millions of others suffer from alcoholism and alcohol abuse, making even an occasional drink dangerous.

People who have a family history of alcoholism or who associate closely with heavy drinkers are more likely to develop drinking problems. Finally, those who suffer from a mental health problem such as anxiety, depression, or bipolar disorder are also particularly at risk, because alcohol may be used to self-medicate.

Since drinking is so common in many cultures and the effects vary so widely from person to person, it’s not always easy to figure out where the line is between social drinking and problem drinking. Taking an honest look at why you drink may help you figure out which side of the line you fall on. Remember, though, the bottom line is how alcohol affects you. If your drinking is causing problems in your life, you have a drinking problem.

Effects on health

The alcohol problem is not the only one. Social problems, physical problems and psychological problems related to alcohol problem.

All parts of the body get affected by alcohol. More than 60 diseases are associated with alcohol consumption. Here are the key.

The brain - all the brain functions can be negative affected by alcohol: Thinking, feeling, understanding, memory, aggression, as well as balance and ability to coordinate muscle movements. Particularly does this appear when you get drunk, but these effects occur even at small amounts of alcohol and becomes more pronounced with heavier drinking. In severe cases you get chronic injury.

Mental health problems - alcohol consumption increases the risk of a range of psychological problems, primarily depression, anxiety and sleep disorders.

Heart and blood vessels - a regular drinking can damage the heart muscle with heart failure as a result. Even moderate consumption increases blood pressure, which increases the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Cancer - Alcohol increases the risk of several cancers: breast cancer, colon cancer, mouth and throat cancer, throat cancer and liver cancer

The liver - after only a few days of drinking alcohol the liver can become swollen and tender. Cells are damaged and it work weaker. With continued high consumption increases the risk of inflammation, cirrhosis and liver cancer.

Esophagus - associated with liver damage, you can get varicose veins in the lower esophagus with life-threatening bleeding as a result.

The stomach - alcohol can cause gastritis with pain and vomiting.

Pancreatic cancer - are affected by inflammation, with severe abdominal pain and impaired ability to assimilate food, as well as the risk of a form of diabetes.

Bone structure - likely to break bones increase. Bone structure becomes more fragile, which means that the risk of fractures increases.

Sexual problems - alcohol affects the hormones, interfere with sexual function and can lead to infertility.

Alcohol and pregnancy - if you drink alcohol during pregnancy, the risk of birth defects is big. The fetus get the same alcohol level as the mother true the blood, increasing the risk of birth defects, brain damage and behavioral problems. There is no limit for a harmful use. The safest approach is to abstain completely from alcohol if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
